User-centered design is always the primary focus.

If graphic design was where it all started for me, UI/UX was the natural progression path. I learned pretty quickly that I was always thinking about how people viewed/used the designs I created, if I put the button here how would it affect usability? If added this extra page would it be easily navigated? I've always felt it is important to ask the “Why” of design, and to be able to talk about your process and the decision making behind your design choices. Good design should be able to impress on its own, but if it's not married to proper flow and architecture than the good design falls short. A good UI/UX designer is someone who understands the users needs and practices good design coupled with logical application flow.
